4 Tips for Creating Your Wedding Day Timeline

Creating your wedding day timeline doesn’t have to be stressful. It may look overwhelming, especially since you’ve never planned a wedding before. It should be enjoyable and easy. In my 5, almost 6, years of wedding photography I have helped over 100 couples create a timeline that has them enjoy every minute of their wedding day. From getting ready to dancing the night away it has been a joy to see my couples get to immerse themselves into their wedding day with happiness. I have 4 tips of creating a stress free wedding day.

1. Wiggle Room

The main key that I input into timelines is to create wiggle room. Whether it be 5-10 mins additional time in certain areas of the day. This will allow you to enjoy moments before the next activity. It allows you to take it all in and not have to worry about what’s next. Things will just flow so much smoother. So if there is rain in the forecast or if someone in the family or bridal party is running just a little behind there’s buffer time.

2. Trust Your Professionals

Trusting your professionals to help create an overall timeline, if you don’t have a planner that can curate this for you. Each professional most likely has their own timeline of things. So grabbing that from each vendor and piecing it all together on you own like a google doc can give you a clear picture of how it all looks.

3. Ask Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions to your vendors. Like how much time do you need for each bridesmaid for hair and makeup? Or what time do you have planned for me to get into my dress for photos to tell my hair and makeup artist?

4. Travel Time

I always put travel time in my timelines, especially if the ceremony and reception are not all in one place. Even though I add wiggle room into timelines I also add wiggle room into travel time. If it takes 7 mins to drive to places I put it at 15 mins cause it takes time to get your stuff loaded into a party bus or cars. Things like bouquets and duffle bags need loaded to get transported to the next destination. So it never hurts to add some wiggle room.
