A rainy day can happen and how you can prepare your wedding day for rain is 100% doable. And after five plus years of capturing over 100 couples wedding days, I’ve had times where rain is in the forecast and created unbelievable magic. As much as you would love for it to not rain on your wedding day it will still be magical. But since you do have control over how you can make the best of it. Let’s embrace the rain! Here are three ways to prepare for a rainy wedding day.

1. Umbrellas

Clear umbrellas are a great way to add coverage when it’s doing more of a sprinkle rain. When there’s a pour down it isn’t ideal, but having umbrellas for a light rain will work great for some amazing portraits. You really only need 1-2 clear umbrellas cause they can get quite pricy. But if you hire a professional photographer that thinks of everything, like myself, we like to carry more than just 2. I have about 32 clear umbrellas in my car, cause having enough for the bridal party takes it to another level! Are you thinking, when’s a good time to order those, Heather? I would look at your weather about a week and a half to one week out. Is there more than a 50% chance? If there is, I would hop on Amazon Prime and find a couple of clear umbrellas for at least the two of you for just in case purposes. You won’t regret it! But for sure check with your vendors to see what their backup plan is and if they have any umbrellas you could borrow. Cause you never know if your wedding planner has prepared and brought some as well as maybe some others.

2. Backup Plan

Most venues have back up plans for outdoor ceremonies. Whether that means moving it under a tent or bringing it into the reception space. But that also means having backup plans for portraits. But if you have a professional photographer, definitely trust them 100% to be able to have a backup plan for portraits. They know where the good light is and the good spots. And if there is rain in the forecast your photographer will know and be prepared to have that backup plan in the works. An amazing photographer will create the magic in any situation.

3. Just Go For It

When I mean go for it, I mean go for it! Dance in the rain. Love on each other in the rain. They always say that it’s good luck that it rains on your wedding day. So why not embrace it and make amazing memories out of it. But if your vision included non rainy portraits definitely get those first before jumping in rain puddles and kiss in the rain.
