six tips to Prepare for your engagement session

You’ve never had an engagement session and your are getting pumped. But just a little nervous you aren’t prepared, because you don’t know what to wear or what to do to prepare yourself for your session. I’m here for you and I’ve helped over 100+ brides and grooms prep for their engagement session. And they have felt the weight lifted and are able to enjoy their engagement session even more. Here are my tips and what to wear to your engagement session.
1. Get your ring cleaned
I will be for sure gonna be capturing your gorgeous ring that your fiancé proposed to you with. So getting it cleaned will make sure every facet is clean and camera ready. Now I know you may lead busy lives and don’t get a chance to go to the jewelry cleaner as often as you like. So an option that I have found to work great is using dawn dish soap and a soft bristle toothbrush will get that sparkly ring to shine like no tomorrow.

2. Coordinate, don’t match
It just looks so much better when you coordinate and not match. When your fiancé wears black dressy pants with a larger print dark blue shirt and you wear a solid light blue dress. That looks amazing. Or you both wear jeans, but he’s wearing a solid light blue button up and you’re wearing a floral print blouse. As long as you both don’t wear white shirts and jeans or both wear exact same color shirts and pants that would be much appreciated. It just gives you a more pleasing to the eye photos.

3. Get your hair and makeup done
Ya’ll hair and makeup makes a difference. Now if you’re someone that doesn’t like to wear makeup I totally get it. Like no really I do. My day to say I don’t wear makeup, but finding a makeup artist that specializes in natural looking makeup is spot on the best decision I did for my wedding. So if you plan to have your hair and makeup done by a professional for your wedding day. Then, I would go ahead and think about making an appointment for your engagement session. So whether that be your hair and makeup trial or a different day it will be worth it. I promise you.

4. Wear what you are comfortable wearing
That’s more like you! That makes you feel confident! These photos are images that you are gonna be setting the tone for your save the dates and invites. So if you are a couple that doesn't get all fancied up then that's ok. Wearing outfits that make you feel comfortable and that you can see yourself wearing over and over is the perfect outfit. When you wear those outfits you will feel amazing which will translate into those gorgeous photos of you two!

5. Check out galleries from your engagement/wedding photographer or his/her blog posts that show photos
Checking out their posts will also give you inspiration on your outfits. It will also give you an outlook on just how much fun you have or just the vibe you get from the session. Also, seeing the location too! Looking at their blog posts or galleries from your photographer will give you all the inspiration you need to prepare for your engagement session. Bring your sweet pups or a champagne pop or a classic car. The inspiration goes for miles! Make it special and unique to your relationship!

6. Trust your photographer
Pinterest has made it so easy to give ideas to everyone. From home ideas to cooking recipes. Of course those ideas can be easily done and recreated. Here is when I get real with y’all. As a photographer, seeing a Pinterest board gives me anxiety. As long as it’s relayed stating that I don’t want the editing, but love the type of posing - that is much better. I’m not a super posey wedding photographer. Yea, I will do some posing, but it flows into more of a candid experience. So telling me that you want a specific pose and here is the Pinterest board of the exact poses you want. I’m gonna say this, I’m not the photographer for you. So have this conversation with your photographer. Trust your photographer. That is why having your engagement session WITH your wedding photographer is so important. Reach out to him or her to allow them to guide you through the process. They should help you plan and give guidance as to what you will experience. Be that hand you can hold during the entire process.
